Sunday's Message:
From the Garden to the Grave and Beyond to Glory!
Acts 1:6-11
The Gospel of John concludes at the death and resurrection of Christ. Mary finds out that Jesus wasn’t in His tomb and the disciples go to see. The angels told the disciples “Why are you looking for the living among the dead? He has risen!” Jesus stayed around for 40 days, and He wanted to make sure His disciples know exactly what was going on.
Thomas missed the opportunity to see Jesus, and he wanted to see Jesus for himself and touch the wounds of Jesus. Once when the disciples were gathered, Jesus showed up and had a kind confrontation with Thomas and then he believed. He believed because he saw. We believe in what we have not seen, but with our hearts. Salvation is all about believing. If you confess with your mouth and believe in your heart, thou shalt be saved.
In the Acts of the Apostle, Jesus instructed the disciples to meet him in Galilee.
The Gathering of the Disciples (v.6)
They came together, their mindset was on political things. They were worried about what was going to happen.
Jesus told them they didn’t need to know the time or season that God would move. He wanted them to focus on receiving the power of the Holy Ghost. Once they receive this power, they would become witnesses for Christ.
We come together to worship, and we depart to serve.
The Power of the Holy Spirit (v.8)
He wanted them to retain the power of the Holy Spirit.
We should allow the Holy Spirit to move within us.
The Ascension of the Savior (v.9)
Jesus ascended into Heaven (on a cloud).
Jesus left the garden where they put Him into a tomb, into the Garden of God.
The disciples stood there and gazed up and suddenly angels showed up. They asked the disciples why they were standing around gazing. They were instructed to go about their Father’s business.
6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?
7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.
8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.
10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;
11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.
