Sunday's Message: From The Garden to The Grave and Beyond to Glory - “I Am Not!” John 18:12-17
After Jesus was arrested, He was brought before the former high priest. Two disiples came with Jesus, Peter, and another (possibly John). The other disciple went in with Jesus and Peter stood outside. A little servant girl came to Peter and asked him was he a disciple. Peter denied that he was with Jesus when a servant girl asked him. He denied it three times.
1. The Arrest
After the crowd showed up with Judas, and an altercation took place, Jesus was arrested. Jesus didn’t want any harm to come to those that were following him. He was then bound and led before the former high priest.
2. The Arraignment
When Jesus went to the arraignment, Peter followed. He didn’t go in and stayed outside, looking in. The other disciple (John) was recognized, and he went in, although Peter was the spokesman of the disciples.
John asked for Peter to come in because he was with Him. He did not move. He wanted to keep his distance, but yet, be there for Jesus.
3. The Abandonment
The servants outside around a fire and Peter was outside with them, during the time the high priest was questioning Jesus about his religion.
He was asked if he was one of Jesus’ disciples and he said he was not.
He was told that he was seen in the Garden of Gethsemane, and Peter still denied it.
Before the rooster crowed three times, Peter had denied Jesus, just as Jesus told him he would do. Upon hearing the rooster crow, Peter had a chance to look at himself and see who he really is and to think about his relationship with Christ.
God allows certain things to happen so He can get our attention. Sometimes He brings us up on the rough side of the mountain, before we get to where He wants us to be. Don’t be ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ!
John 18:12-17
12 Then the band and the captain and officers of the Jews took Jesus, and bound him,
13 And led him away to Annas first; for he was father in law to Caiaphas, which was the high priest that same year.
14 Now Caiaphas was he, which gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient that one man should die for the people.
15 And Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple: that disciple was known unto the high priest, and went in with Jesus into the palace of the high priest.
16 But Peter stood at the door without. Then went out that other disciple, which was known unto the high priest, and spake unto her that kept the door, and brought in Peter.
17 Then saith the damsel that kept the door unto Peter, Art not thou also one of this man's disciples? He saith, I am not.
