Sunday's Message:
Innocent But Guilty!
John 19:6-11
In real life there have been those of us that we have been in situations where we were innocent, but others found us guilty. As innocent as Jesus was, they still found fault.
Why was this crowd so interested in crucifying Jesus? What did He do? Jesus was accused of violating the Sabbath by healing people on the Sabbath. He was accused of blasphemy for claiming to be the Son of God. He was accused of sedition for claiming to be the King of the Jews. Pilate constantly questioned Jesus, and he came back three times and said he found no fault in Jesus. The crowd continued to cry, “Crucify Him!”
1. Blasphemy
· He was accused of blasphemy from the high priest of the Sanhedrin Council.
· Jesus calling on God as his father was dishonoring their Jewish God.
2. Treason
· They thought Jesus could start a riot/fight, because the things Jesus said, went against the grain. He had different thoughts and ideals and the thought Jesus betrayed their country.
· At serval points in His life, Jesus spoke against the government.
3. Sorcery
· Because Jesus healed people, they thought he practiced sorcery.
· Pilate told Jesus, he had the power to crucify Him or set Him free. Jesus has all power, and He can do anything but fail.
John 19:6-11
6 When the chief priests therefore and officers saw him, they cried out, saying, Crucify him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Take ye him, and crucify him: for I find no fault in him.
7 The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God.
8 When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he was the more afraid;
9 And went again into the judgment hall, and saith unto Jesus, Whence art thou? But Jesus gave him no answer.
10 Then saith Pilate unto him, Speakest thou not unto me? knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee, and have power to release thee?
11 Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin.
