Paul In Corinth
“PRESSED IN THE SPIRIT”
Acts 18:1-8 KJV
When Paul says he was pressed in the spirit, he was talking about something that was happening inside of him.
The City (v.1)
After having his message on Mars Hill, Paul was ushered to Corinth
Corinth had a large population of both Jews and Gentiles
The city of Corinth was saturated with sin
The Couple (v.2-3)
When Paul got to Corinth, he found a married couple named Aquila and Priscilla.
He teamed up with them because they had things in common:
Their passion for the Lord
Their purpose was similar (preaching and teaching the gospel)
They were both ex-Jews.
Their professions were the same (tentmakers)
The Compulsion (v.4)
Paul reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath trying to persuade the Jews and Greeks concerning Christ.
Silas and Timothy joined him
The Change (v.5)
When Paul recognized he had more help, the Spirit that was in him influenced him to go tell everyone about Jesus Christ.
Paul affirmed his belief in Jesus as the long awaited savior that was prophesied in the Old Testament.
There were those that kept opposing Paul and upset him and he was pressed to move on. He did all he could do and he turned it over to God.
He departed and went next door to Justus’ house and began to preach and teach. Crispus (a chief ruler of the synagogue) showed up and believe and his entire house and many others believed and were baptized
Acts 18:1-8 KJV
1 After these things Paul departed from Athens, and came to Corinth;
2 And found a certain Jew named Aquila, born in Pontus, lately come from Italy, with his wife Priscilla; (because that Claudius had commanded all Jews to depart from Rome:) and came unto them.
3 And because he was of the same craft, he abode with them, and wrought: for by their occupation they were tentmakers.
4 And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks.
5 And when Silas and Timotheus were come from Macedonia, Paul was pressed in the spirit, and testified to the Jews that Jesus was Christ.
6 And when they opposed themselves, and blasphemed, he shook his raiment, and said unto them, Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean; from henceforth I will go unto the Gentiles.
7 And he departed thence, and entered into a certain man's house, named Justus, one that worshipped God, whose house joined hard to the synagogue.
8 And Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were baptized.
